Contact usHow is the implant removed?
To remove it, we’ll give you an injection of a local anesthetic (which will numb only that area)… the doctor will push the implant rod toward the incision, where they can grab it with a pair of tweezers and gently remove it.
How long does the removal procedure take?
It only takes a few minutes to remove the implant.
How quickly can I get pregnant after removal?
You may become pregnant as early as the first week after removal of the implant. If you do not want to get pregnant after removal of the implant, you should start another birth control method, such as condoms, immediately.
Can a new implant be inserted at the same time as removal?
If the implant worked for you and you’d like to keep using it, you can choose to get a new one inserted at the same time as getting the old one removed.
Can I bring a friend or relative to my removal?
Absolutely! We have tea and biscuits for everyone.

How The Process Works
At the Coil Clinic we aim to make the process of getting or removing a contraceptive device as fast and simple as possible. Just schedule, meet with the doctor, and get treated.

Perform Your Procedure
The appoinment will last around 30 minutes. After which you are able to leave.

We are located in Blackford area of Edinburgh, inside the BlackFord Clinic. If traveling by car, there is free on street parking nearby. Getting here by bus, you can take the 9, 24 or 38.
